A Dedicated Parent, and Committed Community Advocate for District 209

As a proud mother of a current District 209 student and a student in District 88, Rolandra Morris is deeply invested in the quality and future of our schools. With years of experience as a mortgage banking professional, Rolandra brings a strong understanding of fiscal responsibility and accountability. As a parent, a Bellwood community member, and taxpayer, she sees firsthand the urgent need for positive change in our school district, from school climate to resource management.

Establishing Cultural Safety and Accountability

Rolandra believes that every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment where they can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. She witnessed, first-hand, as a parent, the chaos brought by the lack of structure, and how that affected students. Her vision for D209 centers on transforming our schools’ culture to ensure students can thrive—not only in school but also as individuals preparing to contribute positively to society.

Rolandra learned a lot from her positive and inclusive high school experience as a teen in Chicago.  She feels every student should feel valued and respected. Her goal is to listen to stakeholders to ensure that all students feel safe and welcome.

Improving Communication and Collaboration

Rolandra advocates for open communication with all students, staff, and parents, believing that their insights are essential for effective decision-making. She plans to prioritize transparency, proposing clear, frequent communication with both internal and external stakeholders to keep everyone informed and engaged in our schools’ progress. She pledges to be accessible and approachable, attending community meetings, and  actively listening to community concerns and making herself available to discuss them openly. Rolandra wants every family to know that their voices and their involvement matter.

Redefining Student Success and Career Pathways

Rolandra stands firm in her commitment to supporting all three schools within the district. She envisions a district-wide approach where each school’s unique needs are addressed, and no school is left behind. Her mission is to restore community confidence in the school board by ensuring that the board is genuinely responsive to the needs of students, families, and educators. Rolandra believes that the district is responsible for setting every student up for success, in their own way.  As a fierce special education advocate herself, Rolandra is aware that improvement in services for special education students and English language learners is critical to student and district success.

Ensuring Equitable Resource Allocation and High Quality Education For Every Student

Rolandra aims to oversee responsible, needs-based allocation of resources to improve the educational experience and ensure a safe, healthy school environment for all. With a background in banking, she understands the importance of fiscal responsibility. Rolandra plans to engage the community in budget decisions, asking for their input and basing choices on actual needs and research. She believes educational programs and resources should be evaluated carefully before they are implemented, ensuring that district funds are used wisely and effectively. She explains,  “We need to evaluate the programs and resources we use. If they are not working, why keep spending money on them? It is time to get feedback from the community on financial decisions and commit to research-backed, thoughtful spending.”
